The Allman Brothers Band Announce Annual 2012 Beacon Theater Run

The year 2012 will be a big one for the Allman Brothers Band in more ways than just one. They’ll be honored at the Grammy Awards with a Lifetime Achievement Award and ramping up to that, the band has declared 2012 ‘The Year Of The Peach’ and announced their annual New York slate of dates at the Beacon Theater beginning March 9.

The 1972 ‘Eat A Peach’ double album was the last to include legendary guitar player Duane Allman, who passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident at the age of 24. Largely composed of unused live material from their ‘Live at Fillmore East’ set, ‘Peach’ also featured some new studio material, including ‘Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More,’ a composition that Gregg Allman credits as being the song that personally helped him to move forward and continue with the Allman Brothers Band.

The Beacon shows have been a nearly annual tradition for the Allmans since 1989, although health issues for Gregg Allman made it necessary to cancel their usual dates in 2008. And in 2010, the Allmans were temporarily relocated to the United Palace Theater due to scheduling conflicts at the Beacon.

For last year’s shows, the Beacon welcomed the Allmans back with open arms and Gregg Allman told Rolling Stone that “I don’t think they’ll ever put us out again,” indicating that the band had some paper insurance in place to make sure of that.

The Beacon dates will officially launch ‘The Year Of The Peach’ and the Allmans will celebrate the 40th anniversary of ‘Eat A Peach’ during the run. If past years are any indication, you can safely expect that a few special guests will sit in during the New York residency. Ten shows have been announced and will go on sale Friday with additional dates to be potentially added.
