Tonight starts the Eastern Conference finals in the NHL playoffs. Some people are calling it a rematch 18 years in the making.

Back in 1994, The Rangers faced the Devils in the Eastern Conference finals. It was an epic series that went 7 games in incredible dramatic fashion.

Just to refresh your memory, it was 54 years since the last time the New York Rangers won a Stanley Cup. Every road game the Rangers played, they heard "1940" from the crowd night after night

Entering game 6, the NJ devils were up 3 games to 2 in the best of 7 series. The Devils had the advantage. They were the home team for game 6.  The "Captain" Mark Messier guaranteed a NY Rangers victory, and boy did he deliver. Mark Messier recorded a "Hat Trick" (scored 3 goals):

Game 7 was a game that will always be remembered by hockey fans everywhere. Not just Rangers fans. The game went into TRIPLE "sudden death" overtime with Stephan Matteau scoring the winning goal:
