That's what they call the insanely violent wind storm that wreaked havoc across several states, knocking out power lines for days and finding it's way to south Jersey in the early morning hours of Saturday, June 30th.

You might have heard a little something about it on the news.

"No phone, no lights, no motor car, not a single luxury, like Robinson Crusoe, it's primitive as can be"...

O.K. It wasn't quite that bad.

Phone and car, but no lights. Or a/c. Or water (I have an electric pump for well water).

Hey, maybe it was that bad.

And, since timing is everything, it was just in time for the start of my vacation. DOH!

I'm glad most of the Hawk listening area was largely spared (although you guys had your own power outages from storms to deal with this past weekend) , but I live in Egg Harbor Twp. and the violent wind storm had us in her crosshairs.

Derecho is a windstorm with severe thunderstorms that lasts for hours, with enormous power--sustained winds sometimes exceeding hurricane force.

She certainly did more damage to south Jersey than Irene did.

I'm lucky I have such great neighbors, who hooked me up with running water on day 3 (they have a generator, of course).

What's the worst storm you've ever been in?
