Wilco, Mavis Staples, Nick Lowe Cover ‘The Weight’ [VIDEO]

A video recently uploaded to YouTube gives viewers an amazing glimpse at a backstage performance of The Band’s “The Weight” by Wilco, Mavis Staples and Nick Lowe.

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy collaborated with Staples in 2010, producing her Grammy Award-winning album You Are Not Alone and performing with her frequently after.

“The Weight” is within Wilco’s wheelhouse, their Americana style of indie rock lends itself perfectly to the Levon Helm-penned classic.

Staples herself is no stranger to the song. Her family band, The Staple Singers, performed “The Weight” with The Band for the Martin Scorcese documentary of their final concert, The Last Waltz.
