Credits for that mind-blowing, 38-minute long mysterious jam session that popped up on Neil Young‘s website Saturday morning (Jan. 28) have been posted on the site. The track is titled ‘Horse Back’ and, as expected, it was the work of Young and his longtime backing band, Crazy Horse.

Initial reports suggested that the clip may have been ‘Toast,’ an unreleased Young/Horse album that has attracted a lot of attention from fans. But as the sound collage continued to unfurl, it became apparent that it wasn’t ‘Toast,’ but rather a sound collage of jams that included versions of ‘F—in’ Up’ from ‘Ragged Glory’ and ‘Cortez the Killer’ from ‘Zuma.’

‘Horse Back’ was recorded at Audio Casa Blanca on Jan. 6, 2012, with engineering and mixing by John Hanlon, who was assisted by Mark Humphreys and John Hausman. The awesome video that accompanied the music — eye-catching footage (for gear heads, at least) of analog recording equipment, vintage musical instruments, amps and more — was shot by Ben Johnson.

The title and credits are further evidence of what Young himself announced earlier in the week — that he’s recording a new album with Crazy Horse. Young last worked with the band on his 2003 rock opera ‘Greendale,’ although Horse guitarist Frank Sampedro didn’t appear on that album.

There’s no word yet on when a new Neil Young and Crazy Horse album may surface, but if the rough ’Horse Back’ jam is any indication, it will well be worth the wait.
