The legendary Leonard Nimoy, who will be forever known as Mr. Spock, has gone off to explore strange new worlds.

As reported at nytimes.com, Nimoy died this morning (Friday) at his home in the Bel Air section of Los Angeles.

His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, confirmed his death, saying the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

He had announced last year that he had the disease, which he attributed to years of smoking, a habit he had given up three decades earlier.

He had been hospitalized earlier this week.

Live long and prosper on The Other Side, beloved man!
