It's a time honored tradition in the fictional cartoon city of Springfield. Each year on May 10, residents young and old celebrate Whacking Day.

In a 1993 episode of The Simpsons, Springfield residents celebrate Whacking Day by driving snakes into the center of Springfield and club them to death. The tradition is upsetting to animal-loving Lisa Simpson and also appalls soul legend Barry White, who was invited to Springfield as a celebrity guest to kick off the festivities.

When Bart learns the true origin of Whacking Day (it began in 1924 as an excuse to beat up the Irish) he joins Lisa and Barry White to help end the barbaric celebration.

Knowing that snakes are attracted to low frequency noise, they lure the reptiles to safety by placing speakers on the ground while Barry White sings his classic, "Can't Get Enough of Your Love Baby."

Since its April 28, 1993 debut, the Whacking Day episode has become a Simpsons classic, frequently cited among the series' best episodes.

While we don't support snake abuse, we certainly suggest you grab your Simpsons Season 4 DVDs off the shelf, crank up some Barry White and enjoy a re-watching of this fantastic episode.
