The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office confirms the bones that washed up in Avon this weekend are not human.

However, the Monmouth County Medical Examiner does not know exactly what they are. The Prosecutor’s office says they won’t be doing any further investigating on the matter.

Authorities kept swimmers away when the debris, intertwined with clothing and netting, came ashore in Avon on Sunday afternoon.

Chief lifeguard Timothy Gallagher tells the Asbury Park Press the debris contained matter that no one

could identify. Gallagher says rumors that a dead body was found spread on social media.
