Today was the opening ceremony for Ed Jarrett's attempt to break his own Guinness Record for the World's Tallest Sandcastle, being built outside Jenkinson's Aquarium in Point Pleasant. The weather got in the way, but I still got some good pictures!

Photos of the devastation that was happening at the height of Hurricane Sandy were released today. A camera that was running on generator power and that was attached to the underneath of the Mantoloking bridge took these photos of the debris rushing through Barnegat Bay. In another sign of a turn toward normalcy, amusement rides will start spinning this weekend at some parks and piers along the Sandy-battered New Jersey shore even as work continues to repair damage to buildings, boardwalks and other attractions.

Eric Katz, a 30-year-old paraplegic, Toms River, NJ native, who has devoted his life to building and creating artificial limbs for amputees, lost his home and everything he owned during Hurricane Sandy.

On Saturday March 2nd, a benefit will be happening at the Beachcomber in Seaside Heights for the East Dover Firehouse on Fischer Boulevard in Toms River. The firehouse sustained about $50,000 worth of damage from the 4 feet of water that engulfed Fischer Blvd and the firehouse from Hurricane Sandy.

Construction on the 12.5 mile stretch of Route 35 through Ocean County will be done with every effort to not inconvenience drivers too much.  But Joe Dee, spokesman for the New Jersey Department of Transportation reminds drivers this won't be a "normal summer."
