The bad storm season eroded away much of the sand on Brick beaches, exposing the steel wall that had been placed by the state to protect shorefront homes. The waves left dropoffs ranging from 5 to 19 feet, and threatened the town's beach season.

Mayor John Ducey praised the Department of Public Works, including three employees in particular: T.J. Venterino, Joe Brancato and Darren Gissinger. Ducey said:

It took their sheer determination and countless hours moving tons and tons of sand to get it done ... I know our Department of Public Works utility crew would move mountains, or in this case sand, in order to create a beach ... I am so proud of these men who picked up the slack while they were working on the beach ... I could not ask for more dedicated employees."

Ducey also thanked Manchester Township's mayor, Kenneth Palmer, and Manchester's Department of Public Works for loaning Brick the use of a front-end loader to help move the sand.
