If you are looking for a fun workout, how about a hike on one of our many beautiful boardwalks here in New Jersey. This time around we decided to hike the beautiful Ocean City boardwalk in Cape May County.

Looking for a unique and easy hike? Maybe you are trying to find a coastal trail where you can learn about our habitat here at the Jersey Shore? Well I think I have found “both”

So in the latest edition of Hiking NJ I found myself in Bergen County at the Palisades Interstate Park. The park hosts numerous sites and trails within its area, right along the Hudson River on the Jersey side.

I honestly don't know if I would be able to stay as calm as this woman did having a black bear walking in her direction, just a few yards away.

The good news is that progress on a 150-foot long prefabricated weathered steel trestle inside the Barnegat Branch Trail continues to move forward, the bad news is that a portion of the trail remains closed because it's an active construction area and county officials want to keep everyone safe.

Now through April is prime time for hiking and biking the latticework of trails in any number of state parks and forests, and county parks, scattered throughout New Jersey’s central and southern tier counties.

NJ's 300-mile coastal trail will be eligible for federal funding.

Ocean County Freeholders and the North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority are asking you to join them at an upcoming meeting to help identify potential walking and biking linkages for the next phase of the Barnegat Branch Trail project.

Besides getting a great cardio workout, there are more than a few breathtaking photo opportunities to be had. All by taking a hike!
