Last week a friend of mine was in an accident when a buck darted in front of his car. He is ok, but it got me thinking about the accident I had when I hit a deer and the many more close calls. Research just released has pinpointed the areas in Monmouth and Ocean counties that have a high rate of car/deer accidents.

One of my biggest fears when driving on dark New Jersey roads at night is hitting a deer. It gives me anxiety because it happens to drivers all the time. An estimated 110,000 deer live in parts of Jersey where hunting is allowed, and just as many if not more may be inhabiting other areas.

A 72-year-old hunter in Fond du Lac, Wis., ended up in the hospital last Friday. He probably injured himself while hunting, right? Well, kind of.
