Many in the Garden State may not realize the season lasts through Nov. 30, but the upcoming 10-year anniversary of the onslaught of Superstorm Sandy may serve as a reminder to some.
What is in a name? A lot if you attach that name to a tropical storm or hurricane. New Jersians know all too well names like Irene, Fay, Hannah, Floyd, Bertha, Doria, and Sandy. Names of various storms that wreaked havoc in our state over the years. Some more than others.
As far as what's "normal," NOAA's definition of that itself is changing. Now, an average season will be defined as having 14 named storms, seven of which become hurricanes.
