Martin Brodeur Announces New Jersey Devils Drafting of His Son, Anthony

Things have truly come full circle for New Jersey Devils Goaltender Martin Brodeur his the team used the 20th overall pick to select him in the 1990 NHL draft.

This weekend the 41-year-old had the privilege of announcing in the seventh round that the Devils would use the 208th pick of the 2013 draft to select his son, Anthony.

The selection promises to further solidify the relationship between the team and the Brodeur family.

In 21 seasons between the pipes, the elder Brodeur has become one of the sport's most accomplished and decorated players, leading the team to three Stanley Cup titles and earning numerous individual records.

The proud father beamed when he took the microphone to announce the pick. The decision wasn't pure nepotism, however. Anthony has legitimate potential as a goaltender, having graduated from Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota. The school's hockey program has produced numerous NHL stars including former-Devil Zach Parise.

If Anthony hopes to crack the Devils' line-up, he'll have to work awfully hard. His father hasn't shown any sign of slowing down, with a year left on his two-year, $9 million contract. Adding to their depth between the pipes, the Devils dealt their first round, 9th overall pick to the Canucks for goaltender Cory Schneider.
