This seems to have come as a shock to some. The Northeast is usually viewed as a little bit grumpy.

I think this is a big misconception. Just because we are loud, curse a bit, yell at our fellow drivers, and can be a bit opinionated doesn’t mean that we are unhappy.

To me, this means the complete opposite.

Down south and in the Midwest, they are known for being extremely nice and polite, but I think their overly nice demeanor makes them less happy.

Do you remember the episode of Seinfeld when Frank Costanza learned the “serenity now” trick from Lloyd Braun as a way to suppress his anger?

Just because New Jerseyans seem angry on the outside, on the inside we are actually all right because we are constantly releasing stress with our color language and increased volume.

We are more well balanced than you think because we don’t keep anything bottled up.

Not only are we constantly relieving stress in a colorful manner, but we also have the perfect environment to be happy in.

It’s no surprise that the #1 happiest state is Hawaii. They have beautiful beaches and beautiful weather. Sure is expensive, but it’s a slice of paradise.

What do New Jersey and Hawaii have in common?

Beaches. (And expense lol)

Okay, we don’t have Hawaiian beaches, but we do have beautiful beaches. How could you not be happy living near the beach?

You keep doing you New Jersey, clearly it makes you happier.
