Two good Samaritans saved the life of their elderly neighbor whose Middletown home caught fire on Monday night.

Middletown Township home catches fire on Monday

The Middletown Township Fire Department received a call just after 6 p.m. Monday about a fire on the 800 block of Palmer Avenue in the North Middletown section.

There was heavy smoke coming from the attached garage when firefighters from Middletown, East Keansburg Fire Co. and Port Monmouth Fire Co. arrived.

The fire was quickly put out and contained with minimal damage, according to MTFD.

A big round of applause goes out to James and Elaine Scott, who the Middletown Township Fire Department said entered into the structure fire and rescue their elderly neighbor who was trapped.

The Scotts then brought her over to their home.

MTFD said that no injuries are being reported from the fire.

Fire investigation in Middletown

All of the firefighters were cleared from the area of the house fire by 7:35 p.m. Monday.

An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire by the Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s Office.
