Amazing! America’s Oldest Log Cabin is Right Here in New Jersey

When you think of log cabins do you think of Maine or Vermont? Maybe west in the Rockies? I don't think the first thought when it comes to historic log cabins would be here in New Jersey, but it is here in the Garden State where you can find the oldest log cabin in all of America and I visited the location to see for myself.

If you are looking for a piece of "American History" you will have to travel to Gloucester County and visit the town of Swedesboro in the Gibbstown section of Greenwich Township.

The oldest log cabin (still standing) in America is called the C.A. Nothnagle Log House. The original section of the home dates back to 1638. According to my research, Wikipedia said the cabin was built by settlers (Swedish or Finnish) of what was then New Sweden. This cabin is nearly 400 years old, amazing to see something as old as this, right here in New Jersey. This may be the oldest log house in all of North America.

It is just amazing to reach out and touch this little cabin and imagine what it must have been like nearly 400 years ago when the people building this structure were working to provide shelter. A cabin like this was probably the difference between life and death during those times.

Currently, the cabin is closed to visitors, but maybe one day they will re-open and allow folks to walk through the cabin. You can see the cabin from the outside and I have photos I took below so you can see this true piece of history.
