New Jersey Grandmother Competes For International Weightlifting Championship
If you live in Monmouth County New Jersey, you may know Susan Gunther. If you know her, it wouldn't surprise you that she is in Finland competing in a weightlifting competition.
Susan Gunther's story is an amazing one. She was always interested in sports and was involved at a very young age.
Weightlifting Grandma From New Jersey
She dabbled in everything from basketball to softball and was also a cheerleader. And her love of competition stayed strong throughout her life.
As an adult, she married her high school sweetheart Hal, and they have been together for well over 50 years, as well as owning Old Monmouth Candies.

As an adult, Susan, now 75, played competitive tennis for many years, but in 2018, she discovered weightlifting, and a few years later was training for her first Olympic weightlifting competition.
Competing All Over The World
In 2023, she found herself competing in the Masters National Weightlifting Championship in Pennsylvania and walked away with the silver medal.
In May last year, she took a silver in the Pan American Weightlifting Championship in Orlando, Florida.
And now, this amazing mother of six and grandmother of 16, soon to be 17, is competing in the World Masters Weightlifting Championship in Rovaniemi, Finland.
She is competing tomorrow (September 5th) at 2:30 PM, and 7:30 AM here in New Jersey.
We spoke with Sue and she is so excited about the competition, and so are we. We will update you on her progress, but in our hearts, she is a gold medal winner already.
