French Fries are to blame for starting a fire at a Berkeley Township home Monday night around 8:34 pm, according to the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.

The 78-year old victim came out of his Iger Way home and met investigators with burns to his head and hands.

He told police he was cooking french fries on the stove when the oil ignited.

Berkeley Township Police and Bayville Fire Department authorities found the fire had already been extinguished.

The cause of the fire is being ruled accidental.

The victim was brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries and is currently in stable condition, according to OCPO Spokesman Al Della Fave.

An examination of the fire scene by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Arson Unit, Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office, Ocean County Sheriff's Department Crime Scene Investigation Unit and Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau confirmed the origin of the fire to be on the stove-top.
