In Berkeley Township, Police are able to quickly track down a Brick man who allegedly robbed a gas station attendant at the Delta Station on Route 9 Wednesday night around 7:00 pm.

A Good Samaritan told police he saw a gas attendant struggling with someone over money and then assisted the attendant by helping him give chase to the alleged robber.

No weapons were reported to have been shown or used during the robbery.

Patrol units immediately set up a perimeter in the area.

An officer attempted to make contact with an individual who fit the description of the suspect, but he immediately fled on foot.

This continued search included the assistance of the Ocean County Sheriff's Office Drone as well as the K-9 Unit.

A BTPD Detective was able to track down and locate a vehicle that was identified as being involved.

It was parked across the street from the gas station near the Shady Oaks Apartments.

As the detective approached the vehicle he saw a man hunched down in the passenger's seat.

He called other responding officers over and they escorted the suspect out from the vehicle.

Ernest Cannon 28, of Brick Blvd, Brick was in possession of evidence from the crime scene as well as other contraband.

It was determined based on the investigation that Cannon was the person who committed the robbery at the gas station.

As a result, he was arrested.

Cannon is charged with Robbery, Theft, resisting by flight and possession of a hypodermic needle and was remanded to the Ocean County Jail in accordance with the Bail Reform Act.
