A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for most of the Garden State until Wednesday morning, as a few inches of snow accumulation will make for messy roads and occasional reduced visibility.

It was once an impressive-looking winter storm. It has always been a tricky forecast. Now that the snow is falling, it is becoming apparent that snow totals across New Jersey for Tuesday into Wednesday will be meager at best.

Here's what you need to know...

--As the center of this clipper system slides east, it is looking disorganized. That means it's not going to snow "all day" in any given location, and instead will stay scattered (on and off).

--Even though this will not be a "major" winter storm, however, there could still be some travel difficulties in the form of snow-covered roads and low visibility. Crews are keeping ahead of the storm on New Jersey's major roads, and I do not expect them to pose a significant problem.

--Snowfall will generally be light to moderate in intensity. With temperatures in the upper 30s along the coast and in South Jersey, some rain may mix in and/or some melting may occur. That would reduce final accumulations.

--Widespread 1 to 3 inches snow totals are now expected for New Jersey. If a heavier mesoscale snow band sets up, I would not be surprised to see a few slightly higher totals in the 4 to 5 inch range.

--If one last big push of snow occurs, it will start around or just after sunset tonight. So far, areas along the western edge of New Jersey (the Delaware River) seem to be prone to slightly heavier snowfall.

--Snow almost completely tapers off by Wednesday morning. Models show some residual snow showers and flurries could continue through Wednesday afternoon.

--The weather story for the end of the week into Valentine's Day weekend will be the arrival of an arctic blast to New Jersey, dropping down the coldest air of the season so far. High temperatures in the 20s (at best) and lows the single digits are possible for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
