A line of thunderstorms that marched across New Jersey early on Saturday night brought down the temperatures and lots of trees and utility lines as well.

JCP+L’s outage map shows just aorund 10,000 customers without power as of 2:15 PM  with Freehold, Howell, Toms River & Jackson, Brick and Lakewood as having the most customers without service.

Several hundred are also without power according to  the PSE+G outage map.

JCP+L on its Twitter feed tweeted that they expect the “vast majority” of its customers to have service again by late Sunday. “Some isolated, individual” customers may not be restored until Monday.

JCP+L is also distributing free ice and water at a number of locations in affected areas. A full list appears at the bottom of this story.

Ron Morano, a spokesman for JCP+L says 70MPH winds during the storm knocked trees onto lines and pushed over utilty poles. More than 39,000 Monmouth County residents lost power and more than 25,000 residents in Ocean County lost electricity last night when the storms first hit.

Morano says their crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power but there is no timetable for full restoration. They are working to restore the towns with the largest number of outages first.

Route 571 through Jackson and Manchester was closed on Sunday morning with downed wires as was Route 79 at Route 33 in Freehold.

Toms River Police report nearly 100 calls Saturday night about fallen tress and wires.   Tress blocked roads such as Dugan Lane, Chestnut street, Woodhaven Street well into Sunday morning.  Residents reported various property damage to cars, and homes from the storm.

The storms moved quickly but came with 75 MPH winds and in some areas bringing down trees and tree limbs onto cars and homes. Contributors the the Jersey Shore Hurricane News Facebook page reported nearly minute-by-minute conditions from throughout the state as the dark clouds approached. “Crazy lightening and rain but the parkway stayed moving,” reported one contributor. Another noted that falling trees in a Jacskon neighborhood made for an “ugly scene for residents.”

Others reported that despite the storm operators failed to shut down the Skyride in Seaside Heights which got stuck when power was lost.

A New City, N.Y., woman struck by lightning in Monmouth Beach during Saturday night’s storms remains hospitalized with life threatening injuries.

The unidentified woman, 48, was on top of the sea wall in the north end of the borough near Sunset Lane when she was struck by lightning, Monmouth Beach police Lt. Dennis Cahill  told the Asbury Park Press.
