Wall Township Police Head Off Possible School Attack

Wall Township Police headed off a possible “elaborate” attack on students at the Central School according to a letter posted by interim Superintendent of Schools Stephanie Bilenker on the school department website.
Bilenker’s letter says that police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office began investigating threats of a “general nature” made by a fifth grade student at the end of the last school year. A computer forensic examination of the student’s computer revealed a list containing the first names of 40 students. Police held a meeting over the summer with those named.

Wall Township Police Lt. John Brockriede tells the Patch of Wall that the plot described by the student was “similar to a Columbine or Newtown’’ but also contained elements of fantasy. ““There were things that he just couldn’t have possibly accomplished.’’

The letter says that the matter is “firmly under control by the law enforcement officials and no present threat exists.” Unspecified steps have been taken to “ensure the safety of the students involved and every other student in the school system.”

Bilenker wrote that legally the student’s name cannot be made public and very little additional information can be released.

Anyone with additional concerns should contact the Wall Police Detective Bureau at 732-449-4800.
