With the London Olympics starting today (July 27), the British music body, PRS for Music, recently decided to conduct a poll to determine the most popular song when it came to sporting events, and a classic popular anthem has come out on top.

Van Halen‘s ‘Jump’ tops the poll, which is heavy on classic rock artists. The track, from the ’1984′ album, was a longtime TV theme for Chicago Cubs broadcasts and has appeared in many stadiums and arenas as an anthem throughout the years.

NME reports that the track bested the Rolling Stones‘ ‘Start Me Up,’ which finished second and Jackie Wilson’s ‘Higher and Higher’ which followed in third.

Keeping in mind that this was a British-based survey, PRS chairman Guy Fletcher stated, “We are so excited about the Olympic Games and music plays such a classic role for both the spectator and participant. As a Brit, I would have to vote for Spandau Ballet’s ‘Gold’ being a personal favorite. We have such a strong team of athletes this year too – I think we might get a few of those, fingers crossed.”

Apparently some voters were of the same mindset as Fletcher, as ‘Gold’ placed fourth in the survey, with Michael Jackson‘s ‘Thriller’ rounding out the top five.

Queen placed three songs on the survey with ‘We Are the Champions’ (No. 9), ‘Another One Bites the Dust’ (No. 17), and ‘We Will Rock You’ (No. 20), making the cut, but perhaps splitting some of the vote.

Other tracks of note in the Top 20 included Hawkwind‘s ‘Silver Machine’ (No. 8), the Beatles‘ ‘The Long and Winding Road’ (No. 12), Survivor‘s ‘Eye of the Tiger’ (No. 13), Tina Turner’s ‘Simply the Best’ (No. 14), and Journey‘s ‘Don’t Stop Believin” (No. 18).
