Dave Grohl, the coolest guy in the world, was born today in 1969! He's been a part of what seems like a few hundred bands, here are my Top5, what are yours?

5 - Probot

Grohl decided to pay tribute to the metal bands that shaped his youth with this project. He actually played all the instrumental tracks himself, then sent those tracks to various singers like King Diamond, Max Cavalera & Lemmy so they could record the vocals.

4 - Them Crooked Vultures

If you're looking for a legendary bass player, there aren't many that would come before John Paul Jones. Grohl and JPJ teamed up with Queens of the Stone Age singer Josh Homme and their song "New Fang" won the 2011 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance.

3 - Sound City Players

Just look at these names: Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, John Fogerty, Stevie Nicks, Rick Nielsen, Rick Springfield, Brad Wilk, Pat Smear, Taylor Hawkins...and Paul freakin McCartney!

2 - Nirvana

Obviously it's impossible to overlook Nirvana, the band that gave Grohl his big break and set him up for life.

1 - Foo Fighters

Here is one of the reasons why Dave Grohl might be my favorite person in the world. I'm a drummer, and as many drummers do, I can often name the drummer of a band more quickly than the average person. However, despite being the drummer in (arguably) one of the biggest bands of all time, I no longer consider Dave Grohl as "the drummer from Nirvana who started a new band"...now I just think of Dave Grohl as Dave Grohl.  There are many side projects spawned from famous groups that are forever relegated to "side project" status, but the Foo Fighters took the torch from Nirvana and have never let go.
