A new ordinance would increase Toms River parking meters for the first time since 1993.

Parking rates in Toms River would increase from 25 cents to 50 cents per hour for the first two hours, with the fee increasing "progressively" beyond the first two hours.

The increase would fund upgrades to the meters to new technology, which is expected to cost $250,000. The new meters and technology will increase efficiency of the Toms River Parking Authority.
