Tom Petty said basically, 'don't do me like that' and got the credit he felt he deserved on a song that sounds a lot like one of his other tunes.

Sam Smith's 'Stay with Me' is pretty similar to 'I Won't Back Down', so much so that he's now credited as a co-writer.

According to yahoo.com, Smith's representative said Monday the publishers of Petty's 1989 hit contacted the publishers of Smith's song, and the 'Stay with Me' writers, James Napier and William Phillips say they agree their song is similar to Petty's song, written with Jeff Lynne.

"Although the likeness was a complete coincidence, all involved came to an immediate and amicable agreement in which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne are now credited as co-writers of 'Stay With Me' along with Sam Smith, James Napier and William Phillips," they said in a statement.
