The Pride of Toms River Little League came through last night in a huge way, winning this year's Home Run Derby!

Frazier made each round exciting with come-from-behind victories. In the first round he out-slugged two-time Derby winner Prince Fielder 14-13.

In the second round he faced Toronto's Josh Donaldson and edged past him 10-9.

In the finals, Frazier took on Dodgers' rookie sensation Joc Pederson. Pederson put up a big total of 14 and Frazier tied him with just seconds left in regulation. On the first pitch of his bonus time, he crushed a ball to right field to win 15-14!

I must say I really enjoyed the new timed format. It made every swing count, not like in past years where batters could let six or seven or eight pitches go by before finding one they liked. It also kept things close for each head-to-head matchup. In previous years one guy could run away with 20something homers, but when you only have a limited time, the matchups should stay fairly close and keep the tension up til the end.
