Today is Veterans Day, a day we remember all our veterans and honor them by thanking them for their service.

But to truly honor our vets, we should be thinking of them all year long.

CNN asked some veterans what we should do to truly support them.

They encouraged a constant, creative and sensitive focus on veterans' needs, like improving access to jobs and health care, particularly at Veterans' Affairs facilities.

A bit of good news for vets yesterday-- the Department of Veterans Affairs' new secretary announced massive restructuring at the scandal-plagued agency.

But the single most productive thing civilians can do is actually very simple and easy, they say.

Strike up a conversation with a veteran, and really get to know them.

There's a wide cultural gap between Americans who have no relationship with the Armed Forces and those who've served their country.

We can close that gap.

We can volunteer with veteran's programs, we can hire vets if we own a business, we can offer help to veteran's families, we can pressure the Department of Veterans Affairs to take better care of our vets.

Read more at cnn.com on the specific issues vets and their families deal with and how you can offer help.

And thank you to all who have served!
