Gov. Christie has declared a state of emergency and ordered all state offices closed Monday, in anticipation of hazardous road conditions from the developing snowstorm. A growing number of schools are also planning to remain closed.
A state of emergency is in effect across New Jersey as freezing rain has coated roads throughout the central and northern portions of the state, interrupted rail service and cut power to more than 60,000 utility customers, a third of them in Mercer County.
