One of the great "what-ifs" in rock history just got even greater. A newly uncovered telegram shows that Jimi Hendrix had asked Paul McCartney to play bass in a proposed recording session with legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis and drummer Tony Williams.

Paul McCartney really is "mother nature's son," and he's got the arrest record to prove it. In early March of 1973, Scottish police made a discovery on the McCartney farm. It seems Sir Paul was growing marijuana plants on his property. An arrest was made, which would lead to a conviction for "illegal cultivation" and with it, a £100 fine (about $240 at the time).

Paul McCartney is alive and well, but a well-placed rumor in 1969 had some thinking otherwise. On September 23, 1969, 43 years ago, the Northern Star newspaper of Northern Illinois University published a story claiming that McCartney had been killed in a car crash a few years earlier and had been replaced by a look-alike.
