Though long-time fans likely hoped it was an April Fool's joke gone terribly wrong, original frontman David Lee Roth did in fact quit Van Halen 28 years ago today, on April 1, 1985.
David Lee Roth has been securely back in the Van Halen camp for over five years now, but he says that doesn't mean the band members are done arguing with each other, as they've apparently done since the moment they formed: "The conflict was immediate and sustained from day one. Not a note of this symphony has changed."
David Lee Roth doesn't mince words when it comes to what's kept Van Halen from playing Australia in recent years. The group announced they'll play the Stone Festival in Sydney this April. Roth suggests they'd tour the world regularly if it were up to him.

First, a happy early birthday to Eddie Van Halen, who turns 58 tomorrow, born January 26, 1955 in the Netherlands (but raised in So Cal).
Since Eddie Van Halen recently underwent emergency surgery for a severe bout of Diverticulitis, VH's scheduled November 2012 tour of Japan is currently being rescheduled.
But here's wishing a happy birthday to David Lee Roth, who was born October 10, 1954 in Bloomington, Indiana.
