Powerful storms possibly with strong winds rolled  through New Jersey tonight leaving many in north Jersey without power.

The storms had  60 MPH winds and frequent lightning and heavy rain. Most of the earlier Tornado Watches and Thunderstorm Watches have been cancelled except for Monmouth & Ocean counties.

JCP+L's outage map reports over 4500 people without power at 8:37PM mostly in Lincoln Park & Montville in Morris County.

Passaic and Bergen counties are hardest hit for PSE+G customers with 8000 customers in the dark.

Thunderstorms popped up in Ocean County this morning and moved north through Monmouth & Middlesex counties towards New York CIty and the Hudson Valley. A funnel cloud was spotted over the Baywood section of Brick on Saturday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center had New Jersey, eastern Pennsylvania, New York State and western New England at moderate risk for the storms that are predicted to move in Saturday afternoon and evening along a sharp cold front. The storms did not turn out to be as bad as feared.

In addition, Hurricane Leslie is expected to continue bringing large surf and high rip current risk to New Jersey beaches, many of which are unguarded as the summer season comes to an end. If Leslie increases in strength surf could reach 6-8 feet.
