Stafford Police are investigating a pair of car burglaries that took place in the parking lots of two fitness centers on Monday morning.

In both incidents, the victim returned to their car to find the rear window had been smashed and a purse was stolen.

Both purses were taken from the rear seat areas of the vehicles which were also both locked when the intruders stole the purses.

Anyone who was at Tilton Fitness on Route 9 in the Mayetta section of the township or Retro Fitness on East Bay Avenue in the Manahawkin section between 6:00 and 8:00 am on Monday, should contact Officer Russ Dunfee at rdunfee@staffordpolice.org or (609) 597-1189 extension 8444.

Police urge residents to conceal personal items out of plain sight.

"Store purses, briefcases, laptops, etc. under seats or in compartment areas of your vehicle. If you can’t stow these items away, conceal them with clothing or blankets. Best practices are to remove them entirely and lock them in lockers at health clubs and fitness facilities."
