The final sections of the spire that will permanently adorn the Freedom Tower at One World Trade Center in New York City have been raised to the top of the beautiful new building!

According to usatoday.com, construction crews hoisted the spire, dressed up with the American flag, to the top of the tower Thursday.

The head of construction, Steven Plate, said:

"It's a 22-ton structure that will house a state of the art lighting facility as well as a beacon that will be seen for miles around," Plate said. It will "give a tremendous indication to people around the entire region and the world that we are back and we are better than ever."

When the spire is permanently fitted atop the new building, the total height will reach a symbolic 1,776 feet, making it the tallest building in the Western hemisphere.

It brings tears to my eyes.
