Slash Reflects on Hollywood Walk of Fame Honor
Slash became the latest celebrity to join the Hollywood Walk of Fame this past week, and the guitar great admits that he almost didn’t believe it to be true until the weeks leading up to the ceremony.
The former Guns N’ Roses guitarist told Fuse in a video interview, “When I first heard that I was getting a star on the walk of fame, I didn’t believe it, and I didn’t believe it for months … It was actually suppose to be a secret for awhile and it just sort of leaked out and so I didn’t believe it. It wasn’t until the last month when people started asking me in interviews how I felt about the star, well then it has to be real. It’s just not something that I would expect to get.”
Slash says that his disbelief at the honor and feeling that it was somehow not going to come to fruition actually put him under the gun a little bit when it came to organizing who would be part of the ceremony.
The humbled rocker admits he was late in lining up speakers to talk on his behalf and felt a little odd asking his friends. He explains, “As soon as it came time, really at the last minute, you have to get people to speak on your behalf, and I was way too embarrassed to call anybody. Finally in the eleventh hour they said ‘you really need to get that together and pick who’s going to speak for you’ and Charlie [Sheen], he was always in the back of my mind as the guy to call. So finally I sent a text to Charlie ‘Hey would you speak on my behalf at the Hollywood Walk of Fame’ and he was really glad to do it.”
After the ceremony concluded, the rocker and his musical partner Myles Kennedy treated fans to a private performance and question-and-answer session.
