A Robbinsville man has been arrested and faces charges for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol when his 2006 Volkswagen Passat struck the passengers side of a 2005 Chevy Malibu driven by a Manchester woman on Saturday night between Routes 571 and 70.

John Paulino, 26, of Robbinsville was heading east on Route 571 on Saturday night when he struck eh passengers side of the Chevy Malibu, driven by 80-year old Helen Giagiari who was trying to turn left onto Route 70 west from 571.

Paulino was arrested on suspicion of DWI when police arrived on scene around 7:30 pm.

His front-seat passenger, Brenda Noriega-Pinzon of Hamilton,was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune along with Giagiari’s passengers, Anna Troise and Rose Coppolino of Manchester Township with serious injuries.

Giagiari's other passengers, Liberina Salzone and Janette Mohr of Manchester Township, and herself were brought to Community Medical Center for moderate injuries.

Both vehicles sustained heavy front-end and side damage in the accident which remains under investigation and no other charges have currently been announced.

Manchester Police were joined at the accident scene by investigators from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office and the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, as well as fire fighters from both the Ridgeway and Manchester Volunteer Fire Departments.

Paramedics from MONOC and EMTs from Quality Medical Transport were on scene assisting as well.
