Monmouth University President Paul Brown has begun a campus-wide conversation on the possibility of renaming Wilson Hall, due to President Woodrow Wilson’s racist beliefs and policies.

In 1978, Wilson Hall was entered in the National Register of Historic Places. In 1985, the U.S. Department of the Interior designated it a National Historic Landmark. It's most famously known as the mansion of Daddy Warbucks in 1982's Annie.

I attended Monmouth University, I had many classes in Wilson Hall, I performed with the concert band there. I was the first class that had our graduation ceremony at the PNC Banks Arts Center, as opposed to Shadow Lawn. The image of Wilson Hall is a lasting one, even featured on the official seal of the university.

Despite the history of the building, I really don't think the name matters much. If we were to look back, there would be tons of instances of institutionalized racism from one hundred years ago. Henry Ford was a well-known anti-Semite, is anyone trying to rename the cars or the field where the Lions play?

This article gives some suggestions to new names for the hall, what do you think?
