It wasn't what he ordered on the menu nor did his family but a Middletown man shared video of a 'parasitic worm' crawling through his 80-year old aunt's cod dinner at the Stella Marina Bar and Restaurant Saturday, according to NJ Advance Media.

The video author, Jim Guinee of Middletown who is also an attorney, has not taken any legal action against the restaurant who lowered the bill and issued an apology.

The restaurant has since offered a further apology and defense of its operations.

During the dinner, Guinee's aunt reportedly was trying to cut around the skin "that wasn't quite cooked to her taste, she saw the worm, slender and pale, wiggling out of the mix of rice and fish."

"She saw this worm squirming out of the codfish on the plate," Guinee told NJ Advance Media on Monday. "I just videotaped it because, one, I thought it looked pretty gross, and we weren't sure what it was. We weren't sure if she was going to get sick."

His posting of the shocking discovery certainly got the attention of the internet and then the restaurant who wasn't too pleased Guinee posted the video.

The restaurant issued multiple apologies and tried to make amends to an embarrassing situation but were infuriated when they were exposed in the video.

They responded with their own Facebook post that in part reads:

"Ownership, Management, and Employees are very surprised at the callousness and irresponsible reaction of an attorney of law to attempt to destroy our reputation & possible livelihoods due to something that could have happened to anyone, whether cooking at home or in a restaurant.

As indicated by parts of the following article, we are extremely disappointed that a professional who depends so much on research chose to post this before researching the matter.

As always, our customers remain our highest priority and we will stop at nothing to continue offering the highest quality of fresh, not frozen, food and stellar service."

"If I had been a plumber, would they have said I'm a callous plumber?" Guinee told NJ Advance Media. "It wasn't meant with any ill-intent. I definitely didn't think that many people would view it, and I just didn't want them to keep serving the cod."

He also told NJ Advance Media that "the restaurant cut the bill down by about one third, and that the staff was extremely apologetic, telling the family that nothing of the sort had happened there before."
