SeaStreak ferry and Coast Guard help vessel taking on water

The Coast Guard and a SeaStreak ferry helped save four people from their boat that took on water near Sandy Hook Bay on Saturday.

A mayday call that a boat with four people aboard was taking on water, was sent just before 4 PM via VHF-FM radio channel 21. Boat crews from Coast Guard Stations Sandy Hook and New York were launched.

A SeaStreak ferry who heard the broadcast arrived in under five minutes and assisted the people until the Coast guard Station Sandy Hook response Boat arrived at 4:05 PM. They transferred the four people onto their boat before the vessel capsized.

All four people were wearing life jackets and safely transferred to Station Sandy Hook. There were no reported injuries.

The Coast guard reminds boaters to always wear a life jacket. Wearing a life jacket increases the chances of surviving a boating accident.
