That's what Sammy Hagar says about Jimmy Buffett, and adds, "I've been accused of being the heavy metal Jimmy Buffett since I left Van Halen."

In an interview at cbsnews.com, Sammy talks about how he covers "Margaritaville" on his forthcoming album:

"To me, this is a nod to Jimmy, saying 'Yes, he's the Godfather. He invented what I do now.' I wasn't a Parrothead or anything like that my whole life. I had no idea what he had going. Until I saw it. And I just went, 'Wow, this dude has got it going on.'"

Sammy Hagar is releasing his new album, Sammy Hagar & Friends on September 24th.

And according to sammyandfriends.com, he's assembled quite a group of top-notch musicians for this new record:

This is a career-defining record for Sammy, where he masterfully assembled a diverse selection of songs that delve into rock, country, blues and pop.

This album features contributions from Kid Rock, Neal Schon, fellow Chickenfoot bandmates Joe Satriani, Chad Smith and Michael Anthony, Toby Keith, Nancy Wilson (Heart), and many more.
