Rod Stewart celebrated his birthday Tuesday,  born January 10, 1945 in North London, England.

He's been showcasing his unique raspy voice for five decades now, and Rolling Stone Magazine places him at #59 on their "100 Greatest Singers of All Time". He's also one of the best-selling artists of all time.

Stewart has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist (in 1994) and will be inducted for a second time as a member of The Faces this coming April.

He battled thyroid cancer in 2000, which threatened both his health and career, and forced him to re-learn to sing.  Since then, he's been involved in raising funds for The City of Hope Foundation charity to find a cure for cancer.

What else has he been up to?  He's been an Artist-in-Residence at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and just added several new dates for this spring.

I thought about all the great songs  Rod's done over such a long career and here I offer you one of my own personal favorites, the title track from Rod's 2nd solo album, Gasoline Alley, released in 1970.

What's your opinion of the song?  What do you think of the album?  Your opinions welcome--please comment below!
