Come out and celebrate the Winter Solstice with the Friends of Cattus Island and Cattus Island County Park!

It's the 1st Annual Winter Solstice Celebration on Sunday, December 22nd, from 12 to 3 PM at Cattus Island County Park in Toms River featuring guided nature walks, vendors, refreshments, pictures with Santa, arts and crafts, games, and live entertainment by Breaking Waves dance studio.

There is a $5 charge, per person 4 and older.

All proceeds benefit the Friends of Cattus Island and their mission to restore the Cooper Environmental Center.

The “Winter Solstice” at Cattus Island County Park is a day of celebration!

Although winter is a season of cold, snow, dormancy and hibernation, ironically, the winter solstice is a celebration of the sun!

This special day marks the time of year when the noon-day sun appears at its lowest altitude (or southernmost point) above the horizon.

For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, the winter solstice also marks the shortest day and longest night of the year.
