The “Winter Solstice” at Cattus Island County Park is a day of celebration!

Although winter is a season of cold, snow, dormancy and hibernation, ironically, the winter solstice is a celebration of the sun!

This special day marks the time of year when the noon-day sun appears at its lowest altitude (or southernmost point) above the horizon.

For those of us living in the Northern Hemisphere, the winter solstice also marks the shortest day and longest night of the year.
