There are so many "Summer" smells at the Jersey Shore.  The list of what turns you on/off is at the bottom of this article.

There is something about the summer that creates the perfect chemistry for one of our most delicious human sensories to come alive, the sense of smell.

How much do you really pay attention to the all smells around you?

We sometimes use the phrase “Stop and smell the roses” to remind ourselves of the importance of being in the moment.  To be present and aware of the present moment and enjoy your current surroundings.

Where did that term "stop and smell the roses" come from?

The term actually came from American professional golfer Walter Hagen in the 1960s.  He wrote in his autobiography...

“Don’t hurry. Don’t worry, and be sure to smell the flowers along the way.”

As time passed, the statement was paraphrased as “stop and smell the roses.”

I would argue, the smells around you at any given time, play a key role in your daily mood.  In fact, what you smell alerts you not just of good things but bad and dangerous things too.

Here’s a list of some of the smells we are hit with every morning..

Are you a fan of aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is defined as “the therapeutic application or the medicinal use of aromatic substances (essential oils) for holistic healing” by the National Association of Holistic Aromatherapy.

For thousands of years, this tool is used to stimulate our brain receptors to produce emotion.   I am a big proponent of essential oils.  The oil itself along with the aroma it unleashes has assisted in many ailments from itchy bug bites, migraine headaches, sciatic pain, and insomnia, to name a few.

GOOD & BAD SMELLS AT THE JERSEY SHORE

At the end of the day, (or the beginning of the day), our sense of smell is an important one.  I do not take it, or any of my senses for granted.  For those who have lost their sense of smell, I feel for you.  I can't imagine not being able to smell, taste, hear or see.  The notion that some people can't see colors is equally sad.

Here's another meaning I'd like to attach to the metaphor "stop and smell the roses".  Be considerate of others and their disadvantages.  :)
