17-year-old Albert Martin was one of Red Bank Regional High School's star basketball players and the team's only senior.

Yesterday afternoon, he joined his teammates in a circle for a rally cry when his knees buckled and he collapsed.  Efforts to revive him failed.

“His eyes rolled to the back of his head, he was having some sort of seizure,” coach Scott Martin, who is not related, told the Star Ledger. A trainer was at Albert's side immediately and began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and the school's principal, Risa Clay, attempted chest compressions.

Albert was rushed to Riverview Hospital where he was pronounced. "“We knew it was bad right away,” said coach Martin

The cause of death is unknown at this point.  An autopsy is pending.

Grief counselors will be at the school today.

"Our collective heart breaks for his family, friends and teammates and the entire RBR community," Red Bank Regional spokesperson Marianne Kligman told the Patch of Red Bank.
