Former actor Harry Morgan, most famous for his portrayal of Col. Sherman Potter on the hit television program M.A.S.H., passed away on Wednesday at the age of 96.

Although never planning on becoming an actor, Morgan spent 10 years on one of the top television shows of all-time, made 50 films, and appeared on Broadway. He defined what a character actor is supposed to be, but his M.A.S.H. portrayal is what made him famous.

“M*A*S*H was so damned good,” Morgan told The Associated Press. “I didn’t think they could keep the level so high.”

The world lost a good man on Wednesday. R.I.P. Col. Potter.
