It sounds like the plot to a revenge movie, but a man who set his ex-girlfriends bed on fire in Lakewood Township with a hair dryer has been arrested and charged with arson.

Police say Alfredo Hernandez Martinez, 33, of Lakewood allegedly entered the Michelle Way townhouse when no-one was home, turned the hair dryer on and left it under the bed sheets before fleeing the scene.

When the woman and her new boyfriend got home they saw thick black smoke coming from the third floor.

They then immediately changed direction and walked out but did suffer from smoke inhalation and were transported to the hospital for treatment.

Fire crews and police arrived just after midnight January 7.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office and Ocean County Prosecutors Office was called after firefighters believed the fire was set intentionally.

Martinez was arrested and charged with Aggravated Arson and an act of Burglary under the Domestic Violence Act.

He was then transported to Ocean County Jail.
