Life near the boardwalk has been no day at the beach recently in Point Pleasant Beach.

Residents say they have to put up with people having sex in public, urinating on residents’ lawns, fighting, screaming and cursing at 2 a.m.

The town is fighting back by banning nonresident parking near the bars at night, starting in July.

But it has an even stronger weapon: It’s also asking the bars to either pay an extra fee based on their occupancy, or shut down at midnight instead of 2 a.m. The added money would help pay for additional police patrols.

The bars have offered $161,000 a year toward the cost of the patrols. A decision could come Tuesday.
