The tragic trend of fatal pedestrian crashes in Lakewood Township continues with the second accident in four-days on Thursday night around 9:50 pm near Ocean Avenue.

Investigators say 24-year old Juan Soriano Ramirez hit the pedestrian as he was heading back onto the road after realizing a local business he tried entering off Ocean Avenue (Route 88) was closed.

When he re-entered the roadway 53-year old Lucas Rodriguez De La Rosa of Lakewood was directly in front of his 2002 Dodge Stratus in the eastbound lane and Ramirez couldn't avoid hitting the victim.

De La Rosa died at 10:37 pm at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus (Kimball Medical Center).

The Dodge Stratus sustained damage to the windshield and front bumper.

Investigate units on the scene found that Ramirez was also driving with a suspended license and as a result was arrested and faces charges for Causing a Death While Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended Drivers License.

He was then brought to the Ocean County Jail in lieu of bail.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed against Ramirez.

The Lakewood Police Department Traffic Safety Unit, the Ocean County Prosecutors Office and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department CSI Unit were all on scene Thursday night responding to the accident.

This is the second fatal pedestrian accident of the week in Lakewood with the first occurring on Route 70.
