The morning commute on the Garden State Parkway is delayed by late running construction that has been cleared in the area of exit 91 in Ocean County.

Parkway delays approaching the Toms River tolls even after late running construction was cleared (NJ DOT)

Early commuters were greeted by  two right lanes unexpectedly kept closed for road work past 5AM when work is usually picked up according to New Jersey 101.5 traffic anchor Bob Williams.

Traffic was backed up to Route 37 in Toms River according to many callers adding upwards of an hour to some commutes heading towards Monmouth County.

Crews finally opened all lanes around 6:45AM but the delays will likely continue for much of the morning.

No reason was offered for the delay. It's not known if the contractor faces a penalty for the late running work.
